Meet Maura
Maura McCarthy Bulman has served as the Broward School Board Member for District 1 since 2024. Maura is a dedicated mother of four sons who have attended Broward County Public Schools in District 1. Her experience as a local attorney, community volunteer, and a long-time Hollywood resident inspired her to run for office. With a background as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica and an attorney at Legal Services, Maura has consistently demonstrated her commitment to public service and advocacy - and she has taken that leadership to the Broward County School Board!
As a School Board member, Maura has worked to fight for a better public school system for our students, teachers, parents, and community. When Broward County was considering closing schools in District 1, she worked with municipalities and non-profits to keep these schools open. Her leadership helped expand programming and opportunities for students in our schools. Our entire community benefits from strong neighborhood schools, and Maura’s tireless fight to keep our local schools open will benefit everybody in District 1.
Maura has also effectively advocated for long needed maintenance and renovation in our District 1 schools that will provide a higher quality of education for years to come. She has continually demanded accountability for from the Broward Schools superintendent and staff to eliminate waste, increase transparency, and ensure accountability for our students and parents. This will help taxpayer dollars be used more efficiently and effectively for the benefit of District 1 families. Maura’s transparent advocacy has allowed resources to be spent on exceptional programming, including expanded arts and science programs. She has played a leading role in the Solid Waste Authority of Broward County’s revolutionary effort to reduce waste and increase recycling in our schools.
Throughout her life, Maura has answered the call. As a lawyer, activist, School Board member, and mother, she has proven her commitment and her compassion. Maura’s unique qualifications as an advocate, negotiator, and problem solver make her the ideal candidate to continue to represent District 1 on the Broward County School Board. She is committed to fighting for the resources, support, and respect that our families and school staff. She looks forward to continue working to ensure that our schools are the best they can be for students, educators, and the community.

I know firsthand how vital strong public education is to our community. That's why I'm proud to serve as your Broward County School Board member - and running for re-election to continue to serve the community and families I love.
I believe in creating a nurturing, safe learning environment for all students, where they can explore diverse ideas and perspectives. Our schools must be places where students thrive, and teachers are valued and supported. Our teachers deserve competitive pay and the resources they need to succeed. They are the backbone of our schools, and I will fight for them.
Our public schools offer incredible programs, but we need to better communicate their value and successes to parents and the community. Transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility are essential to this effort. We must build a robust communication strategy that highlights our schools' strengths and listens to community feedback. We must continue to work to hold School Board staff accountable and rebuild trust within our community. Together, we must build bridges and collaborate, whether as municipalities, civic organizations, PTAs, or just neighbors working together.
The quality of our education system is critical to our future as a community. Our kids are counting on us, and we will not them down.
